Most members of this family eventually became Camels, then Campbells. Bythe Jersey Blues were re-mustered and assigned to Fort William Henry where they comprised one third of its garrison. The British advance was rapid and the German defence was losing cohesion but pockets of German defenders, armed with Spandau machine guns and sometimes supported by 88mm artillery, often exacted a heavy toll before withdrawing. It was disbanded in February and its men distributed among the regiment's 1st and 8th Battalions and the 13th Entrenching Battalion.
Liberating the Dutch towns of Hengelo and Borne the Dorsets and Hampshires established a lasting friendship with the inhabitants. The heat of the action lay to the east of the city, and the chief slaughter was between the end of Perry Wood and the Commandry. On the approach of the Parliamentary army, under the Earl of Essex, Prince Rupert retired from Worcester, which was entered, the day after the battle, by Essex, who treated the citizens with great severity, and sent the principal of them prisoners to London. The 1st Battalion was involved in the retreat from Rangoon during the Japanese conquest of Burmaand the 10th Battalion saw active service in the defeat of Japanese forces during the Burma Campaign — A large party was ordered out after them, but in vain. MORRIS was eventually placed under arrest and tried for disobedience of orders, found guilty and sentenced to minor punishment. At least one NJ Indian is documented among the ranks. Before reaching Sandy Hook, their point of embarkation to the city, they fought in the largest encounter of the war, the Battle of Monmouth.
While at Lloyd's Neck the battalion saw little or no action. With no further need of Provincial forces there, the 2nd battalion commenced its march to Brooklyn, where they would be ferried across to Staten Island.
The 1st Battalion celebrated the bicentenary of the regiment at Malta in and the anniversary of the Battle of Alexandria annually. After the strategic failure of the operation they moved to the island — the low-lying polderland between Arnhem and Nijmegen — to defend the area from German recapture.
It rejoined the division in the middle of April and fought in the unsuccessful attempt to lift the siege of Kut. The division was destined for Burmaand thus the battalion "having been trained as infantry, tank troops, and combined-operations troops, went straight into jungle warfare, for which we had had no training".
When the operation was abandoned the 4th were ordered to cross the swollen river, under heavy fire, to rescue their Airborne comrades. They served for a year alongside the 2nd Battalion and were replaced by a second volunteer company in April In the 'Middlesex' suffix was dropped,  and in June the 4th Battalion was disbanded, with its members distributed among the regiment's three remaining regular batalions.
The only line known to have retained their surname was that of the patriot Balthasar's brother Martin Kimmel whose Kimmell descendants lived in the Quebec county of Missisquoi. They were also perfectly aware that whatever was said against a Militia was said in favour of a standing army ; and the name of standing army was hateful to them.
